Co-Dependents Anonymous is a fellowship of people whose common purpose is to develop healthy relationships. The only requirement for membership is a desire for healthy and loving relationships.”

Coda Preamble

The Step, Tradition, and Promise

Step 4

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Tradition 4

Each group should remain autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or CoDA as a whole.

Promise 4

I release myself from worry, guilt, and regret about my past and present. I am aware enough not to repeat it.

Principles in Practice
April

This section we link each month's Step and Tradition to the related principle. It will offer a short reflection or quote and a question for meditation or journaling.

Spiritual Principle: Courage

Step 4: “Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.”
Tradition 4: “Each group should remain autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or CoDA as a whole.”

Courage is the quiet strength to look inward. Step 4 isn’t about judgment, it’s about honesty and compassion. We face ourselves, not to condemn, but to understand. With courage, we learn that truth brings healing, not harm.

Reflection Prompt:
What truth about myself am I ready to see with compassion?

Finding Your Path:
The CoDA Journey Continues

As we conclude this series on Step Work in CoDA, we're reminded that healing from codependency is not a destination but an ongoing journey. Each of us walks our own path, yet we walk together in spirit, bound by our shared experience and hope.

The Power of Shared Journey

Many of us find that working the steps alongside others creates something magical, a space where our individual stories weave together to form a tapestry of understanding and support. Whether through facilitated groups following the Blue Book or Green Workbook, or simply gathering with others who understand our language of recovery, we discover that we're not meant to walk alone.

The beauty of CoDA step work lies in its simplicity and its depth. In safe, tradition-based groups, we learn that vulnerability is not weakness but courage, and that sharing our truth creates space for others to find theirs.

The Wisdom of Balance

We all begin somewhere. Some of us start our step work journey in quiet reflection, using the literature as our guide. This personal work is valuable and meaningful, yet we often find that the most profound growth happens when we bring our individual work into the light of shared experience.

There's wisdom in recognizing when we need more support. A listening ear, a different perspective, or simply the comfort of knowing others understand. This is where the magic of CoDA truly shines, as we create spaces where healing happens naturally, through connection and mutual respect.

The Gift of CoDA

What makes CoDA special is its foundation in love and principle. Our Twelve Traditions create a protective framework where we can share our deepest struggles without fear. We're free to be ourselves, to stumble, to grow, and to celebrate each small victory along the way.

In our fellowship, we find something rare, a place where we matter not for what we achieve, but for who we are. Where our stories are met with compassion rather than judgment, and where our recovery becomes possible precisely because we don't have to do it alone.

The Path Forward

As we continue our step work journey, we remember that there's no single "right" way to walk this path. What matters most is finding what works for us, within the safety and support of our CoDA community.

Whether you're just beginning or have been walking this path for years, know that your presence enriches us all. Your willingness to work the steps, to face your truth, and to reach out for help is an inspiration to those who still suffer.

The journey continues, one step at a time, one day at a time. And in CoDA, we walk together, not because we have to, but because we choose to, because in this shared journey, we find strength, healing, and the profound joy of recovery.

With hope and gratitude, The CoDA UK Comms Team

NSC Inventory Part 3

NEW DATE: 9 May 2026

1pm - 3pm UK time

CoDA UK is holding the third part of an inventory which is open to members from all the national meetings and representatives of regional groups.

Similar to a group inventory, this will be the National Service Committee examining whether it is functioning healthily or otherwise, guided by CoDA’s Twelve Traditions and spiritual principles. All members are welcome to have their voices heard about how the NSC is running.

The current format was decided at the start of the last NSC inventory cycle (June 2024 to Feb 2025), and follows the CoDA Guidelines for following 12 Traditions.

There is no requirement to attend the whole meeting – feel free to drop in at any time during the inventory. We ask that you put your name and home group (if you have one) in the chat so we can keep track of how many members attended.
